Philosophy Statement
"I do believe that the students are the future"
I believe that
all students deserve an education. An education that allows them to grow,
discover and stimulate their particular interest in a subject. Each student
that a teacher comes across in unique and different in their own way. Due to
their differences each student cannot and will not learn in the same way and it
is up to the teacher to adapt to their needs. A classroom needs to be a place
where the student wants to learn and not has to learn. The teacher should not
push the student on the subject but instead motivate and encourage them to do
their best.
Mathematics is a subject that students dread to come to. It is the subject that they insist that they will never use again. I believe that mathematics is more of a prominent factor in as students’ everyday life than they realize. I want to show my students that math is used; it is subject that teaches you logical not just how to solve for “x”. Math is not an easy subject, even for those with a degree in mathematics. Math is a subject that challenges you, makes you think and gives you a feeling of accomplishment when you work through the challenges. I want my students to be able to overcome challenges, to work through their problems. Students these days have too many excuses that teachers accept. I want to prove to my students that an excuse is not a reason to give up.
I believe that every student needs to know that the teacher wants them to succeed, that we want to create an environment where they can do that. I want to create a community not a classroom. A community where they student can open up, where they can share, where they can learn, both to respect themselves and others. A community that student can become a responsible citizen. A place where they learn that good behavior and hard work get you places and bad behavior and being lazy will put you in a place you do not want to be.
I want to show my students my love for learning in hopes they will to love learning as well. I want them to know that learning does not stop when you leave the classroom. Overcoming a challenge, such as a hard math class, make them a better-rounded person. I want my students to leave my classroom at the end of a year with a smile. A smile that comes from overcoming the frustration from the year and learning something that they can carry with them in the future.
