Middle School Placement
For my first placement for student teaching I was placed in a sixth grade class room at Eastchester Middle School. I taught the same type of class four times during the day. Each class had the same topic but each class ran a different way. I learned the the make-up of the class, the type of student and the time of day, will really effect how the day will go no matter how much planning goes into making the lesson. During my time at Eastchester I taught graphing, both coordinate and data (i.e. bar and line graphs), learning to solve for a variable and lastly customary measurements. I really enjoyed my experience in this sixth grade classroom. I learned a lot about the in's and out's of a classroom that I would have never known if I didn't get in front of the room.
Example Lesson
This lesson is the lesson I did for my observed lesson. Its a lesson on Patterns, it was the first lesson of a new chapter. During my lesson the SMART Board in the classroom did not work so I had to replicate the lesson on the chalkboard. Due to that both the students and I improvised and made the best of the situation. I have attached my lesson plan, the SMART Board lesson as well as my professor's review of my lesson.
