Welcome.
Welcome to my E-portfolio. I am Kathleen O'Malley a graduating senior at Manhattan College. I am a Secondary Education Major with a concentration in Mathematics. The website is a accumulation of my work as a student teacher but also as math student and education student. This semester has been unlike any other not only did I have to be responsible for my own work as a student but I also had to be responsible for the work and learning of other students as a student teacher. I have learned a lot during this semester but it is just the start of what I will be learning as a teacher.
When it comes to mathematics many people just think about adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing or maybe finding the value of x. This kind of thinking forces math into a hole. It becomes a subject that students hate and believe that they can never understand. As for the teachers who are teaching math they face the challenge to break the mold, during every class.
Teachers say that they make a million split second decisions during a class. I have never found a statement to be more true. No matter how much time I put into a preparing for a class things always changed.Teaching for the first time the semester I have never been more nervous or more excited to do something. I have been preparing to teach for the past four years and finally getting in front of the classroom was very rewarding. Throughout this website you can find lessons plans, reviews and photos of my first teaching experience. As well you can find lesson plans and units plans from other education classes.

If you look around you will find lesson I have done during my time as a student teacher in both a sixth grade classroom and a Precalculus classroom. You will also see samples of my work in upper level mathematics course and sample lesson plan I did in preparation for student teaching. The last thing will be my philosophy and growth statements that I wrote after completing my time as a student teacher.
Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.
